Meet the Course Instructor
Benjamin Scott McGahee | University of Arizona
Ben McGahee is a University of Arizona post-graduate math tutor and math education specialist for Yamie Chess Ltd. Mr McGahee holds a Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Mathematics from the University of Arizona, and a Masters (M.A.) in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. Mr McGahee has been teaching math for over 10 years and designing curriculums for students to help them understand and master mathematics.
Mr McGahee specializes in teaching students math in the following areas: basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and advanced mathematics, and for standardized text preparation in: ACT Math, SAT Math, GED Math, GRE Math, Praxis 1 and 2 Math, GMAT Math, and ASVAB Math. Mr McGahee is sponsored by Yamie Chess Ltd to play chess tournaments across the nation. Mr McGahee has been teaching math for over 10 years and designing curriculums for students to help them understand and master mathematics.
All Yamie Chess® STEM learning aid products for K-8 math and science education, are the result of the collaboration between professional mathematicians, scientists, engineers and two-time USA women's chess champion and Women's Grandmaster, Jennifer Shahade. Mr McGahee is a K-8 math expert on Yamie Chess Ltd's STEM advisory team.
When Mr McGahee is not inspiring his students with a love of mathematics, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Ellie, and their miniature schnauzer Toffee, playing chess, exercising, and socializing with family and friends.
How to use Mr McGahee's Lessons
Mr McGahee's K-8 math lessons are aligned to support the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Curriculum Focal Points in the elementary and middle school stages. No registration is required.
Mr McGahee's math lessons are very useful to help students grasp math concepts, while still being valid revision for those with greater academic aptitude.
- Each week Yamie Chess will publish around 3 of Mr McGahee's latest math lessons (which support NCTM standards) and 1 classic chess puzzle, aimed at K-8 students who are learning classic chess through the Yamie Chess math learning aid series.
- Each lesson will last around 10 to 30 minutes.
- The grade level of the math lesson is tagged on screen under each video.
- Like an online drop-in class, parents and students can simply click on one of the math topics below to tailor the math course to their own needs, helping students to develop and explore math areas at their own pace.
Ben McGahee's math lessons can be customized to the student’s current math classroom learning syllabus.
